About our school

Dewstow Primary & Nursery School opened in September 2012 and is an amalgamation of West End Infant School and Green Lane Junior School. We moved into the new building in November 2012.  The school is surrounded with evidence from Caldicot's rich historical past with Caldicot Castle and Dewstow Gardens both within a short distance.

Our school is a bright and modern school, fully equipped for 21st Century education.  We have four Learning Plazas built around a beautiful internal courtyard.  Plaza Gwanwyn (Nursery and Reception), Plaza Haf (Year 1 and 2), Plaza Hydref (Year 3 and 4) and Plaza Gaeaf (Year 5 and 6) which all have 'art studios' that allow learners to access outdoor learning and play directly. The plaza design allows two year groups to work alongside each other, using flexible and adaptable learning spaces that support collaboration, creativity and learner independence.

Our beautiful, modern school environment offers a wide range of high-quality indoor and outdoor learning spaces.  Alongside our open learning plazas, pupils benefit from:

  • A spacious school hall used for P.E., assemblies, productions, music lessons, lunch and breakfast club
  • A dedicated Sensory Room
  • An ELSA Room supporting emotional wellbeing
  • A Food Technology / Family Learning Room
  • A thriving Forest School area
  • A Gardening area
  • A well-resourced Library
  • A Science and Technology Area, with access to laptops, iPads and even a studio for digital learning

We are a forward-thinking school that embraces creativity, innovation and reflective practice.  Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do and we work closely with pupils, families, staff and the wider community to maintain our strong, positive ethos.
